FAQ

Coffee

Roast Umber selected Robin Guitierez’s coffee from Huehuetenango, Guatemala because of the high quality and the ability to please the broadest range of coffee drinkers. We do direct trade and work with our partner to deliver the best product to our customers.

Roast Umber roasts green coffee beans to a profile that shows off the product's natural characteristics and flavor. While we don’t like to think of roasting being more important than the natural ingredients, some would consider it a light to medium roast.

Different brew methods bring out different qualities, and we encourage you to try Roast Umber in the way you best enjoy coffee. We love it for pour overs, brewed in drip machines, used in espresso makers, and made in a French Press.

A general rule of thumb is to use 1 part coffee to 16 parts water or 1:16. Your grind size and brew method may vary depending on your preferences but we recommend starting with a 1:16 ratio to begin.

Absolutely! In fact you can select ‘ground’ on our website and we send a bag filled with delicious coffee already pre-ground for a general automatic brewer.

Yes. A common misconception is that espresso is a particular bean or roast. It is a way of extracting from the bean using high heat and pressure. Our bean can be used in any espresso machine.

Coffee is best kept in a cool and dry place with limited exposure to air. If you are transporting coffee in your car we recommend using a cooler or other insulated container to reduce extreme fluctuations in temperature.

We think so! We do it all the time.

Post-roast coffee flavor changes over time. Often fresh coffee can be too intense for some, while 1 month off roast may be too mild for others. When coffee is stored properly it will become less flavorful, like a crouton.

No. It is an average amount of caffeine for coffee, or about 90mg of caffeine in an 8oz cup.

While Roast Umber coffee is not certified organic, we work with small family farms that focus on quality by caring for the environment & soil.

Nitro Cold Brew

Nitro stands for Nitrogen, a gas that is used in beverages like Guinness beer. We infuse nitrogen into cold-brewed coffee when we create the product and it absorbs into the liquid. The characteristics of nitrogen that you will notice are the smooth texture and natural sweetness (making it a great choice for people who like a little sugar or honey in their coffee).

Take It, Shake It, Make It

We recommend you shake the Nitro Cold Brew vigorously before opening it. This allows the gas in the liquid to 'activate' its natural properties. Drink it in a kayak, at the playground, or anywhere that makes you happy.

Giving Back

Our team is driven to give back to the communities we serve and to the world around us. For every purchase made, a portion of the profits goes to supporting the work of nonprofits. Check out our Giving Back page to see who we are currently supporting.

During the checkout process, there is an option to add a tip to your order. The money collected during this step is giving directly to the farmer. We pay these to the farmer periodically in a way that minimizes fees in order to maximize the proceeds to the farmer.
